[ hi nico! we've just met our NPCs, and rita's hanging out around the capsule hotel, looking at her phone. ]

Hmph. So in the end, we're still left with more questions than answers.

[resumed]

[ honestly she's valid. nico's sort of aimlessly wandering because being trapped in a hotel is not good vibes, really, but at least he's no longer dressed as pikachu or loaded down with snacks. he's back in his all-black attire and his hands are in his pockets as he seems to be thinking. ]

I almost wish I could say I'm surprised, but I sort of expected this to happen. It felt too easy.

Guess so. Everything about this experience has been annoying, to say the least. And now they want us to compete in some stupid competition!

[resumed]

Yeah, I'm not a fan of being thrown into a contest I didn't sign up for. The information they were giving us about the competition was pretty vague, too. I'm going to try to ask more questions tomorrow, but I'm wondering if it'll be more of the same. "Do hero-things and save your world." As if whoever's in charge isn't the one putting our worlds in danger to begin with.

Week 1, Tuesday

[Rita's sitting out in the park, writing in a notebook. She goes to turn the page, and in a terrible bout of luck, a sudden gust of wind tears the page from the book and sends it flying!

Right into Nico's face. Hi.]

[resumed]

[ okay well i rolled a 9 which means this page immediately smacks him in the face and there's a startled noise. you know at first i read that the whole notebook went flying but this is somehow funnier that his own luck is so bad he can't dodge a sheet of paper. ]

Rita. [ he does not remove the page. ] Do you want this back?

[rizomata]

Ah--! [how dare the wind mess with her writing.]

Yeah. [she reaches out a hand in a grabby motion. gimme.]

[resumed]

[ he's tearing it off of his face, but it's so close that he does kind of look at it to get a sense of what it is before handing it back to her. ]

What're you working on now?

w2 friday

[resumed]

[ he's grown used to people just wandering in and out of phoenix dorm, so when he looks up from the paper and sees rita he just waves.

ignore that there is a black shadow-y creature on his shoulder that is also staring at her. ]

I'm finding more and more reasons to hate Thursdays, actually.

[rizomata]

Yeah, I'm with you there.

[she pauses to give the shadow creature a long look....... is this Shame? I think you mentioned it being around but Rita probably hasn't directly acknowledged it before now.]

[resumed]

[ oh yes it is i could not remember if rita has ever seen it because it's usually in his hood. anyway it sort of looks like a cat? with white-glowing eyes and smoke-like texture. ]

What do you think the reasons are this time?

Hell if I know. It better be something better than last week's nonsense. Not that they'll get any mercy either way.

[... drawing a little closer and experimentally reaching a hand out towards Shame...]

[ i guess he's going to wander around to find her and will perhaps end up in her dorm. maybe hung let her in. i don't know. i do not know what ox dorm looks like we are just here now.

either way, he's settling across from her and just staring at her for a second. ]

So...today's been pretty terrible already. [ nice opening, di angelo. ]

[ Yeah, Hung did it! She's lying on the couch in a seating area like this. She lifts her head to look up at him. ]

... Yeah. I'd say it couldn't get any worse, but...

[ It's Thursday, so it's going to get worse. ]

[resumed]

[ amazing how i fucked up my starter, let *him in. anyway it's fine. he's not going to make her sit up so he kind of gestures with his hand that she can lay down. there's a pair of white glowing eyes peeking out from his hood, but the puff stays hunkered down instead. ]

Studies have shown that everything always gets worse. [ y...ay. ] I don't know if it's good or bad that we're starting to get used to this. Probably both at the same time.

[ but he shakes his head and he assesses her for a little longer before he frowns. ]

...where'd you guys go?

[ Good, because she wasn't going to get up. ]

Some school. We were taking a test... It felt like a big deal at the time.

are you okay?

[ he says, thinking he's probably not going to get a real answer because it's rita but trying his best anyway. ]

[ yeah good luck. ]

Yeah.

[ it takes a while for her to add anything... ]

Just pissed off.

[resumed]

[ he can be patient. ]

dare i ask about which part of it all?

[ forces my way here because you didn't give me a location so we are voiding, but i want rita mems. as such since idk if you wanna go first or me, whenever nico (and shame the shoulder demon) end up encountering her, he actually stops a little and sort of stares at her from a good distance. ]

I know this is an extremely vague question, but has today been weird for you?

Every day here is weird.

[ she is also. keeping a bit of a wary distance.

i can give one! do you want something nice or something bad... or any particular lore expanded ]

Okay, well, weirder. Is that better? [ he kind of draws a square with his two fingers in the air. ] Like in your face weirder.

[ giiive me...maybe something lore-related about her journey or her research or something that developed her character as a person. ]

i didn't want to overwhelm you when you guys got back
this one in particular looked pretty bad
i'm sure some of the others went to see you
but i wanted to check on you and make sure you're stabilized and doing a little better
just...text me back when you're feeling up to it, ok?

[ it takes a little bit, but she texts back. ]

I'm okay
It was really bad.
It's over now, so it's okay.

it's over and you're back with us and we're gonna take care of everything
...was it worse than last time?

[ he's not even sure she can answer that. ]
