According to the leaders, we ought to keep an eye out for signs of this man. White objects in odd places, papers with strange writings, and a villain - in this case, the more mundane ones that are supposedly around quite often - saying something that might be unusual, or out of the line in villain fare.

Perhaps. There's no guarantee, and we'll have to dive into it much more - but one 'villain' that is outside of the norm, that sets off a chain of events with a quite literal 'boom' does stand out.

Vide is the god of darkness and chaos; we also know him as the Devourer. It's a fitting name, as should his actions be allowed to continue, the people and creatures of our world alike will begin to attack and destroy each other, until there's nothing left but Vide himself. His followers believe there is nothing in this world worth living for and intend to see it all burn as a consequence.
By preying on the very darkest parts of humanity's heart, through manipulation and despair.
