So, in the myths, spartoi were warriors that sprung up from drakon's teeth that were sown in the earth. But this little guy - years back, there was a mix-up at a museum, I think? The people trying to create them sowed a saber-toothed tiger's teeth, instead.
Yeah, something like that. I don't really get all the details myself, but - the facts are, he exists, and he's super tough. But also super friendly? He's a good cat.
[ rita is still thinking deeply about the scientific explanations for how a cat can also be a magical buddy, when another set of panels appear. here's a memory. ]
[well. he does try to politely look away from the panels to give rita her privacy, but whenever he does the panels pop up in front of him again, so. he can't.
Yeah, it's - it's one of the only safe places for people like us. We're brought there and trained while we're young, that way when we go out into the world we're equipped to defend ourselves from whatever comes up. [he chuckles] ...and things do come up.
Before we're trained to use them... well, yeah. [he sighs] They can sense the... divine essence in us, I guess, and it attracts them. Usually around the time we're ten years old is when it's powerful enough for it to attract their notice, but with some demigods it's earlier.
Even if you've got the type of power that's good for defending yourself - and some of them really aren't great for defending yourself with unless you've trained and know them inside and out... if you have no idea how to use them, it's not gonna help much.
[...right. she's not from a world with greek myths.]
Well - you saw some of them, the Cynocephali? They're just one example of them. There were tons of types of creatures down in Tartarus, but that's where creatures like that re-form. They'll head up to the mortal world and wreak havoc on things... we'll disperse them as part of quests, or if they attack demigods or things like that, and they'll usually be gone for a while before coming back up again... it's a never-ending cycle.
A lot of mortals don't see them for what they are. Like - when I was ten, I got attacked by a flock of Stymphalian birds? ...but the mortal around us only saw them as really aggressive pigeons. But once you can see through the Mist, you can see them for what they really are and defend yourself from them.
