What's the deal with you and food?

[ his fingers twitch a bit at that, but he doesn't retort or anything. ]

Oh, uh. My master trained me not to accept food from anyone else. He poisoned me more times than I can remember. Not that I don't think Hung's a good guy but—

I didn't say I enjoyed it! Atreau scared all his other disciples away, cause no one else could deal with his methods. But I had to stay so I could become the strongest man in the world.

That's so stupid, though! Why would you even want to be "strongest in the world," especially if it means putting up with that?

Cause I want to make sure what happened to my family, to my village, doesn't happen to anyone else. Fiends are born hating humans. As long as they exist, they'll keep killing us just for being alive.

... They killed your family?

Yeah. And my entire village. Or most of it. The ones they didn't kill they enslaved until they died too.

So you had nothing left to lose, and a goal you could put your whole life towards. Is that it?

I was a coward before all of that who couldn't even really hold a sword, let alone protect anyone.
