The question is, what kind of trouble? Was he just arming himself in case any of the villains reared their heads, or did he notice something more specific seemed to be happening?
I won't say I haven't considered picking up a weapon of some kind for myself, so I can't really judge him for that. Especially since he also had Groot to look after.
